Welcome to the world of essential oils!
You may be asking: “What are essential oils?”
Essential oils are extracts from aromatic plants. They are the part that provides protection and health for the plants. Most essential oils are steam distilled from the plant (from the leaves of the peppermint plant, from the flowers of the lavender plant, for example). However, citrus oils are cold pressed from the rind.
There are 3 ways to use essential oils: aromatically, topically, and internally.
Aromatic application: You can diffuse oils into the air; inhale them directly from the bottle; or place a drop or two in your hand, rub your hands together and inhale, to name a just a few.
Topical application: You can apply essential oils directly to the area of concern, always avoiding contact with the eyes or mucus membranes and never pouring into the ear canal. Some oils will need to be diluted with a healthy carrier oil, such as coconut oil, jojoba oil or grapeseed oil, as they may be a little caustic to the skin. It is always ok to dilute any oil, as this helps to prevent the oil from evaporating into the air, causing drying of the skin, or causing skin sensitivity. Diluting also helps the oil to spread further on the skin.
Internal application: Please note that not all brands of essential oils are safe to ingest. The one I use and sell is the purest and most potent brand of essential oils available today. (You can contact me on Facebook or email me at TheAromatherapyMama@gmail.com to find out the brand I use.) These oils are conveniently marked with a supplemental facts label to indicate which ones are intended for ingestion, if desired. To take internally, you can drop them under your tongue, add a few drops to a glass (not plastic) of water, or take in a veggie capsule.
Essential oils have changed my life forever and I delight in learning about them and teaching on them. I specialize how the oils support us emotionally and most of my posts will center around this. However, I do also use the oils for my family’s physical health as well, and will occasionally post on this and other topics.
Please join me often here on my blog to learn all that you can. I will be glad to help you out in any way that I am able. Please leave comments on my posts. If you would like to contact me directly, you can reach me on Facebook or email me at TheAromatherapyMama@gmail.com.
Wishing you health & happiness,
