Today I’d like to introduce you to bergamot. This citrus fruit that produces this oil is grown in Bergamo, Italy. The oil is cold-pressed from the rind, so it is different than the juice of the fruit.
Emotionally speaking, this oil is called the “oil of self-acceptance.” For those who aren’t comfortable in their own shoes and sometimes wish they were someone else, this oil offers hope. Bergamot helps the individual to let go of self-judgment and to accept himself or herself as they truly are.
Bergamot also aids individuals in letting go of limiting belief systems. Sometimes we hold beliefs that prevent us from becoming all that we can become. It is important to search out these beliefs and correct them. Bergamot aids us in doing this.
An example of a limiting belief is if I were to think that, because I’ve failed at tasks in the past, I will always fail. I could correct this belief by making the habit of believing that I can, in fact, be successful in life.
I am using bergamot today to help myself feel comfortable in my own skin. I often try to take on the traits of others and be like them. I am learning about how God made me and am learning to live to please Him by being the person He designed.
One way I’m learning to be myself is by admitting that I am not a super organized achiever like some of my role models, John C. Maxwell and Michael Hyatt. I enjoy learning how to live a productive life from them. At the same time, my creative personality type is not as organized or scheduled as they are. I’m learning to accept this and to observe their lives and adapt their positive habits to my personality.
You can use bergamot topically or aromatically to achieve results. I put the oil in a roller bottle diluted with fractionated coconut oil (grapeseed oil is also good to use) and apply it to my wrists and behind my ears or the back of my neck. You can also inhale straight from the bottle to use it aromatically.
How about you? Are you living as your authentic self? Do you like who you are? While there are times that we need to make changes in our lives, sometimes we are fine the way we are and just need to accept ourselves.
